Possibilities to increase the share of Estonian origin in protein feeds

The aim of the survey is to compile data on the origin, quantities, and use of plant-based protein feeds imported into and produced in Estonia (e.g. rapeseed cake, soy, maize, sunflower, and products made from them) in feeding different animal species. The study provides a knowledge-based overview of the import and use of plant-based protein feeds in Estonian livestock farming and of the possibilities for replacing them with local alternatives. The results support the strategic planning of Estonia’s food supply and help shape policy measures and support schemes that promote sustainable livestock farming.
