UT Centre of Applied Social Sciences

Centre for Applied Social Sciences (CASS) is a University of Tartu unit that brings together scientists and different academic and practical fields. Among us, there are analysts, project managers, experts and researchers. We conduct local and international studies and trainings on topics that describe and influence health, education, sociology, psychology, economy, human-centric technology and other social processes. Our mission is to foster and support science-based decision-making in Estonian Society.

Our expertise

Today, CASS operates mostly through four thematic groups: education and research policy, Labour Market and Social Policy, Spatial Planning and Regional Policy, and Sustainability and Economic Policy. This division reflects both our professional esperience, as well as the changing needs of Estonian society.

Our work

Over time, CASS has developed fairly distinct workflows: international projects (e.g. EU frame programs, international evaluation projects, intra-European comparative studies) and local projects (for Estonian ministries, local governments, government institutions, non-profit organisations). Trainings and materials are our third category, often the direct result of the first two - large part of our trainings and materials are first created as project outputs.
